EPA mandates cleaner energy

The EPA recently announced a new rule – see the news story here - mandating cleaner energy from even the oldest coal electricity plants. Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana are among 27 states that fall under this mandate. The EPA estimates that utility companies will need to invest as much as $800 million a year in pollution upgrades, beginning in 2014. And those expenditures will be passed on to consumers in the form of higher energy bills for those that rely on coal electricity – like we do in the Tristate. The EPA says it may drive up utility bills by 2%, but some argue that could be more like 20%.

There’s never been a better time to look at controlling your electricity costs with a renewable energy solution.
