Landholms
Angi and Harvey Landholm moved to Greater Cincinnati from Denver nine years ago. They purchased their 30+-year-old Symmes Township home in part because they appreciated a green energy feature on the home - four hot water panels. However, the system wasn't functioning.
"Green energy was always attractive to us, but we couldn't find anyone to fix the panels. We knew having some green options would be a lot more efficient," she said.
So they'd been shopping around a bit for contractors who would help them find green solutions for their heating and cooling and other energy needs. They found EcoEnvironments at the Cincinnati Home and Garden Show. Then, they got a $600 energy bill for an especially cold month, and Angi was spurred to action.
She consulted EcoEnvironments and several other companies, doing research and talking with them about their proposed solutions, especially geothermal heating and cooling.
"Chris from EcoEnvironments gave us a lot fo background," she said. "He knew what he was talking about and came up with a plan that was specific to our home. He even brought up the suggestion that we could utilize the heating system and the heat pump in combination with our hot water heater. He knew all of the incentive programs. He was honest and friendly, and EcoEnvironments pricing was comparable."
After installation, EcoEnvironments continued to check-in on the Landholms to ensure there were no questions or problems and resolved all of their concerns, she said. "And it gave me a good excuse to focus on the landscaping in the front yard," she said of the installation process, which included drilling geothermal wells.
"We're really pleased. The house is comfortable, the hot and cold spots are gone, and it's quieter. We couldn't be happier with EcoEnvironments. We trust and believe in them," she said.
Now she pays about half the cost of the energy bill she used to have during the heating months and 1/3 the cost during the air conditioning months.
"With the incentive programs – a 30% tax credit and a five-year loan for 2.99% – it doesn't make sense not to do this. This will pay for itself in about four years," Angi said. "Even though it may cost more upfront, we're saving a lot more in the long-run."
Friends and neighbors ask her frequently about the investment in geothermal heating and cooling.
"I always recommend EcoEnvironments, and we've opened our home to people who are considering geothermal for a green energy tour. We couldn't be happier."
